BBC Radio Essex covers EJN fundraising campaign

BBC Radio Essex interview

BBC Radio Essex has covered our campaign to raise £10,000 to keep the Essex Jewish News paper and website going for another five years.

EJN editor Simon Rothstein was interviewed by the BBC’s Ben Fryer on one of the station’s flagship shows.

In the chat, Simon told him: “Our paper gives people upbeat and positive news about what is happening in the Jewish community in Essex.

“It tells you about the achievements of our local synagogues, schools and people – covering all parts of Essex and all denominations of Judaism. It really focuses on all the wonderful things happening in Essex.

Speaking about the GoFundMe campaign, Simon added: “Our paper has been going since 1972, staffed by a team of volunteers. It’s given a first break to many young journalists and also given joy to those volunteers who have retired but are still keen to write.

“But print and other costs keep rising. We’ve sadly seen many local newspapers close or merge.

“The Essex Jewish News offers something unique that no one else does… and we are fighting to keep it going!”
