Community pays tribute to Alan Weinberg MBE

Friends, colleagues and community leaders gathered at Beal High School to celebrate the life of Alan Weinberg MBE, a man whose decades of service left a lasting impact on Redbridge.

Alan – who died earlier this year – was renowned for his dedication, kindness and commitment to helping others, regardless of background or circumstance. His work as a school governor and local councillor, and his contributions to local initiatives such as Sinclair House, were widely praised.

The celebration, organised by his former colleagues Pranav Bhanot and Robert Cole, was attended by around 60 people including Alan’s wife Hazel and their family. Speakers included:

  • Cllr Lee Scott, long‑standing friend and former colleague
  • Linda Huggett, Deputy to Alan when he was Leader of Redbridge Council
  • Phillip Leigh, Chair of the Essex Jewish News, who worked with Alan on Sinclair House (pictured reading a poignant poem)
  • Suzanne Nolan, Deputy Mayoress to Alan
  • Melvin Pedro, Chair of Governors at Ilford County High School
  • Cllr Paul Canal, Leader of the Conservative Group on Redbridge London Borough Council
  • Yvonne Andress, Co‑Headteacher of Beal High School

A long‑standing and highly respected figure in Redbridge, Alan served as a Councillor for Clayhall Ward for 36 years and was Mayor of Redbridge. A Former Chair of Governors for Beal High School, he was awarded an MBE for services to education and the community.

Attendees at the memorial event remembered Alan as a tireless advocate for his community, whose care and dedication touched countless lives. His legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire those who knew him.
